Key findings

The Advocate of the Principle of Equality, The national equality body, commissioned a national survey on the perceptions of discrimination in late 2017. The survey showed that Roma are percieved as the most common victims of discrimination (24 % of the respondents, multiple responses possible), followed by persons of sexual orientation and refugees, respectively (14 %), persons of lower class (poor, homeless...) (11 %), women (8 %) and foreigners (7 %). Five per cent of the respondents also claimed that members of religious groups are most often subject to discrimination.
In addition, 40 % of the respondents stated that race/ethnic origin are the most common grounds of discrimination (a maximum of 3 responses possible), sexual orientation being second (39 %), followed by religion (29 %), social status (26 %), disability (18 %), wealth (18 %) and nationality of a non-EU country (17 %).
